E3 2002: 60HZ MODE FOR EURO ONIMUSHA 2, NEW SHOTS
Keizi Inafune, producer of Capcom's samurai action franchise, has confirmed that the company is about to move out of the dark ages, as well finally talking Onimusha 3
2:51 Joy of joys. Keizi Inafune, producer of Capcom's Onimusha franchise and head of production of the publisher's second development studio, confirmed at the Capcom Producer's Day in Los Angeles today that the PlayStation 2 game will have a 60Hz mode for Europe.
"I visited Europe in March," he said, "did a lot of research and heard voices from various people. A lot of people were hoping for a 60Hz option, so I'm going to add it for the European version."
Bok. Capcom has been one of the worst offenders of ignoring 60Hz options for European games in recent years, but it looks like things are changing. No borders and no slow-down. Happy days.
Answering questions from the floor of the pre-E3 event, Inafune also explained his use of 2D backgrounds for the sequel but confirmed that the third game will be realized in full 3D.
"The positive side of using pre-rendered backgrounds is that I achieve more beautiful visuals compared to 3D background, and things like rain, wind and water can be expressed more naturally," he said. "The downside is that the camera cannot move and game-play is limited, so in the sequel I'm considering using full 3D backgrounds." As the press conference went on it became apparent that Inafune was more than "considering" the move.
Moving on to the third in the series, Inafune admitted that it may be the last, although it appears the efforts of a certain Mr Lucas have left their mark on the Capcom star.
"Personally, I'm planning on making it a trilogy," said Inafune. "The story will end with the next one, but like Star Wars which started after the first three stories, maybe there's a possibility of the series being continued. But yes, a trilogy."
Onimusha 2, set in feudal Japan, follows the bloodthirsty adventures of a young warrior as he attempts to thwart the undead army of the evil Nobunaga. Think samurais, zombies, stunning visuals and all the Japanese monsters your little head can cope with
