Source: PSP-4000 has sliding screen, is “complete aesthetic overhaul”

VG247 has learned that PSP-4000 does have a sliding front-screen, with a highly-trusted source confirming fresh details on the unannounced machine this morning.

PSP-4000 is not PSP2, but rather a “complete aesthetic overhaul” based on existing PSP tech.

Much is now known by some parties of the console, which will be announced at either GDC or E3 this year, but cards are currently being clutched very tightly to chests.

The revamp does have a sliding front-screen, and we’re assured the design being currently touted isn’t a million miles away from this now-infamous image.

Eurogamer rumoured PSP-4000 for a 2009 release in December last year, and our source confirmed this to be the case today.

Sony has constantly denied PSP2 is in the works: now you know why.

Die Quellen von VG247 waren bisher immer ganz gut, also dürfte es wohl stimmen. Wenn die neue PSP-Revision dem Mock-Up da oben ähnelt, wäre sie in jedem Fall ziemlich schick.

Das wär tatsächlich recht cool, vor allem dank 2 Sticks. Auch wäre der Bildschirm oben endlich mal für Filme unterwegs geeignet.
 
Naja, Dual-Sticks werden wohl kaum kommen, macht auch nicht wirklich Sinn imo. Dass da oben sieht zwar schick aber auch relativ unspielbar aus.
 
Jo, vor allem die Sticks sind etwas merkwürdig platziert aber da kann scih ja noch was tun. Falls denn überhaupt stimmt.
 
Der Mock-up ist ewig alt und hat mit Sony afaik gar nix zu tun. Wenn dann sieht sie also sowieso anders aus. Das was an den Gerüchten dran ist halte ich für sehr wahrscheinlich. Ich denke, Sony wird in dem Zusammenhang dann auch sehr sehr stark auf digitalen Vertrieb setzen was die PSP angeht. Die Ansätze sind ja jetzt schon da.
 
So sehr ich diese updates ala nintendo hasse, eine psp version mit ergonomischeren gehäuse und brauchbarem display würde ich mir nochmal kaufen.

Habe sehr gerne auf der psp filme geschaut, nur irgendwann hat mich der bildschirm nur noch angekotzt :(
 
Vielleicht liegt unter dem slider display dann die Handy Tastatur und das Teil wird mit einem Telefon Unterbau von Ericsson ausgestattet. :D
 
1. ist windows mobile nicht schlecht und
2. bezweifle ich stark, dass sony das noch lange mitmacht. LG hat auch schon sein eigenes proprietäres OS für Handys gebastelt.
3. kann ich mir für Sony ein Android als OS sehr gut vorstellen.

vergiss das mit den android, haben die sony chefs auch schon von sich gegeben das das so schnell nicht passieren wird.
da wirste eher wieder symbian bekommen :)
 
The next iteration of Sony's PSP handheld will feature a sliding screen, will no longer carry a UMD drive and will allow shoulder button-only games to be played when the screen is in its 'closed' position.

That's according to a development source close to Sony, speaking to Eurogamer on condition of anonymity. We first broke the news of a new update to the system late last year, revealing that PSP-4000, the third incremental hardware revision of the console, is planned for release later this year.

While Sony has refused to comment so far, further rumours have emerged in the past week claiming that 4000 will represent the first major overhaul of the system, with a sliding screen added and the UMD drive removed.

Our development source today confirmed these reports, adding: "The screen is basically the same as the one in the 3000 - except it slides." When 'closed', we were told, the screen won't cover the entire face of the console, but the unit will be "significantly smaller in width" as a result.

With the console in its 'closed' state, most controls will be inaccessible. However, our source claims that games which use the shoulder buttons exclusively - such as LocoRoco - will be playable, as these inputs will still be accessible. It's expected that the unit can also be used for media playback in this configuration.

Eurogamer further understands Sony is approaching developers for ideas for games that only require the shoulder buttons.

Sony said this afternoon it does not comment on rumour or speculation.

Da steht nicht, dass sie seitlich aufgeht. Wie soll das denn auch gehen? Wäre ja unspielbar.
 
Wenn sie schmaler wird, wenn man sie zusammenschiebt... öhm... wie soll sie denn dann deiner Meinung nach aufgehen?!
 
Sie kann doch auch in die Höhe schmaler werden. Ist doch auch wurscht egal, es wird sicherlich am Ende nicht so sein, dass man das Display neben den Buttons hat.
 
Man schiebt die Buttons einfach hinter/unter das Display in die Mitte, wo ist jetzt dein Problem?

Ah ja, so dürfte es wohl aussehen. Ist doch cool? Als du meinst man schiebt den Bildschirm seitlich raus habe ich mir das eben bildlich vorgestellt. In dem Fall ist es ja eher so, dass man die Buttons zu beiden Seiten rauszieht.
