Riggs crew member suspended, fined $10K for shove
A member of Scott Riggs' pit crew has been suspended indefinitely and fined $10,000 for shoving Kevin Harvick after Sunday's race, NASCAR confirmed Tuesday.
Craig Curione, the team's front tire carrier, has been identified as the crew member who pushed Harvick after the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday. Harvick, his wife DeLana and NASCAR official John Sacco all fell as a result. Sacco suffered a sprained ankle.
The shove came after an incident between the two drivers late in the race.
Harvick and Riggs were racing for position on Lap 332 -- seven laps from the finish -- when Harvick closed in on Riggs from behind, apparently taking the air off the rear deck of Riggs' car. Riggs was unable to maintain control and his car went into the wall, demolishing it.
Riggs, who was not hurt in the incident, was running third at the time.
Evernham Motorsports, which owns Riggs' team, said it supported the disciplinary action against Curione and would not appeal the penalty.
"We apologize to Kevin and DeLana Harvick, NASCAR, our partners and our fans for this incident," team co-owner James Rocco said. "The behavior demonstrated by the involved crew member was in violation of the (our) employee code of conduct and will not be tolerated."
The team did not indicate if it will take internal action against Curione.
Curione was one of several crew members who approached Harvick minutes after Sunday's race at Texas and exchanged words with the driver, apparently in retaliation for an incident late in the race.
Curione, 37, a native of Sanborn, N.Y., worked on Jeff Gordon's pit crew at Hendrick Motorsports before joining Evernham's team.

John Bickford, Gordon's stepfather tells Us, "The wedding was great!"
The newlyweds will "honeymoon" in Phoenix, Arizona, and Miami, Florida – the site of the final two events of the 2006 NASCAR season -- before attending the NASCAR Nextel Cup Banquet in New York this December. Their official honeymoon will take place in an undisclosed location once the season ends.
Gordon, 35, is a four-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion. This will be his second marriage. He divorced his wife of nine years, Jennifer Brooke Sealy, in 2003.
Vandebosch, 37, began modeling at age 16 and has appeared in magazines like Elle, Marie Claire, Vogue, and Glamour. The aspiring actress has had bit parts in films such as Going Greek and Taxi, in which Gordon also had a cameo.
