As we told you about last week, Microsoft has publicly acknowledged problems with some Xbox software in Japan. Specifically, a sizable number of customers have complained of scratched game discs. According to Microsoft representatives however, the problem won't force a major recall. On the contrary, Microsoft believes the problem lies within the handling of Xbox software by the consumer. Thereby, discs are improperly loaded into the console which can result in surface scratching which renders the software unplayable. Company spokesperson Midori Takahashi reassured consumers that replacement copies for damaged software would be available, but described the number of affected consumers as minimal. To date, Microsoft has received an estimated 243 calls regarding the problem in Japan. It's believed approximately 250,000 Xbox units were shipped to retailers in accordance with its February 22nd launch.
