Vibri makes waves

SCEJ has confirmed that Vib Ripple, the third instalment of NanaOn-Sha's quirky Vib Ribbon series, is due to hit Japanese PS2s this summer. First sequel Mojib Ribbon blended customisable hip-hop lyrics with Japanese calligraphy (!) and was rightly considered unsuitable for translation, but Ripple looks set to be a contender for European launch as it revolves around imagery rather than words.

As you may recall, Vib Ribbon allowed you to play any CD of your choice and generated levels based on the tracks; Vib Ripple echoes this visually by creating stages from any photographs that you upload into the game via your mobile phone or digital camera. The aim of the game is to get Vibri, the rabbit-like wireframe character from Ribbon, to rescue the little 'Peta Chara' by jumping on areas of the photograph that match the colour of the Chara. As with all versions of the game, successful play will result in Vibri evolving into a higher form, while failing to locate the Chara within the time limit or hitting enemy creatures (called 'bunchi') will reduce him to increasingly primitive forms.

Like Vib and Mojib Ribbon, it sounds highly original, insane and extremely limited in equal measure, but that doesn't mean we still can't wait to give it a go. Screens below, if you're interested...
