By waiting to release this title, I believe Sega did the game justice. The game has a well rounded and mature feel about it that only time in development could bring about. Though late to arrive on the shelves, NBA 2K2 has definitely set a new benchmark for future basketball games to look up to. Some people argue that the game has been released at an ill-fated time because NBA 2K3 has a release date scheduled for late 2002. It is very possible that this overshadowing factor will diminish the groundbreaking glory for the title and reduce the total amount of copies sold. There is no doubt that online play and other vast improvements will make 2K3 more enticing. I can only speak for myself when I say that NBA 2K2 has earned every penny I spent on it. For those of you who will wait until the next release—beware, for the basketball nuts who will join me in mastering this game now will have that much of an edge over you when the game hits online!
