By now most of us are familiar with the Crash Bandicoot series of games. If you watch any amount of TV, you probably have noticed the large amount of funny commercials. Crash Bandicoot made his debut on the PSX and is slowly leading his way to other consoles. We have to thank Universal Interactive for taking over the Crash Bandicoot franchise back when it appeared on the PlayStation 2. Traveller’s Tales, Crash’s new developer, took over the responsibility of porting the Wrath of Cortex to the Xbox. Don’t worry though, the new developer won’t be changing many things with Crash since they’ll be sticking to the program laid out by Naughty Dog, the former developer.
The story is quite similar to the previous Crash games. Uka Uka and Dr. Cortex will be trying to do away with our furry fellow. As always, Crash will try to keep one step ahead of them. Getting rid of Crash isn’t easy, so in order to keep Crash out of their way Uka Uka and Dr. Cortex will use 4 elements of the world. These four elements which include earth, wind, fire, and water, are what the evil doers hope to bring an end to Crash. Now they won’t be putting their rings together to summon Captain Planet, they’ll be using these elements to summon natural disasters like tornadoes, earth quakes, volcano eruptions, and tsunamis.
You’ll notice that the levels are similar to the Crash Bandicoot preview games. If you’ve played these games you know that there are side-scrolling and forward-scrolling levels, something which you’ll also see in Wrath of Cortex. In previous games, you had the freedom of moving in different directions. Yet another trait you’ll notice in Wrath of Cortex. Crash also needs a way to get around and Traveller’s Tales made sure he had lots of cool vehicles to do so. I’m sure you want to know what you or your partner Cocoa will be driving. A few of the modes of transportation will include a glider, jeep, mini-helicopter and an Alien-inspired Mech.
Crash will still be using his same old moves to fight off evil like spinning, sliding and butt stomping. You’ll also be experiencing colorful bonus levels while collecting apples along the way. Utilizing the Xbox’s power, Wrath of Cortex will have bright and vibrant colors with real time effects to spice the game up even more. With over 30 levels of excitement, 40 hours of gameplay and 5 evil bosses, fans of this genre should have a blast playing Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex. While it may not make a huge difference, we are told that gamers will notice faster loading times than the competitor (Playstation 2).
Crash is a character most PSX fans have enjoyed piloting through his games. Thanks to Traveller’s Tales, Xbox fans will have the chance to give a jab at a good game later this month. Whether Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex will be a top seller or not, I think it’s worth most of our time to give our old furry friend a chance!
