Virtua Fighter 4 may be Sega's biggest and most important software release in years. Thanks to debuting on a console with a large userbase, not only good VF4 sales raise the company's earnings for this fiscal year, it can also give them the respect they have always deserved and rarely ever received.
According to a Goldman Sachs report released this morning (which is based on Famitsu data), the VF4 sell-through has reached 70% of initial shipment, and the amount sold has hit 297,400 by February 3rd. The data covers only 70% of the japanese retail market, so the report estimated actual sales to exceed 400,000. Goldman Sachs claims that Virtua Fighter 4 "looks likely to become a million-seller" in the territory. If the game does sell that well, they expect Sega's profits to increase by nearly 1.5 billion yen.
