..... mit der Online-Zukunft der PlayStation2.
Jedenfalls in Japan...:

After forcing millions of PS2 owners across North America to wait for a seemingly endless amount of time, Sony has finally announced the details on the upcoming PS2 network and its accompanying peripherals. The network will launch in August 2002, so PS2 owners with internet access and the now-revealed PS2 Network Adaptor will be able to play other people around the world via a new breed of PS2 games.
Also in August, Sony will release the Network Adaptor for the PS2, a proprietary device, for a suggested retail price of $39.99 US. The Network Adaptor is made up of a 10/100 Ethernet connection and a 56KV.90 analog modem, which will cater to a wide spectrum of users regardless of their internet connection speed. Sony will also include a bundled disc of start-up instructions, product manual and documentations, ISP connectivity selection, offline product registration options, and online game demos.
The list of games to be available at launch will most likely be revealed at The 2002 Electronic Entertainment Exposition (E3) in May.

Bundled with the Network Adaptor comes a start-up instruction disc, a manual, online game demos, product registration, ISP connectivity options, and other documentation for instant set-up. SCEA has partnered with Earthlink, AT&T WorldNet Service, SBC-Prodigy, and Sympatico for users to connect via cable, DSL, or narrowband. The Network Adaptor also supports connectivity though other ISPs. Sony's Network Beta Test Program starts this month, and about 1,000 online testers will evaluate connectivity, usability and online games.
Kaz Hirai, SCEA's president and chief operating officer, told Reuters Television that SCEA plans to have at 12 or more games ready for launch this August. SCEA will announce more online details at E3 this year.
Online games likely to come from SCEA are SOCOM: Navy Seals, Twisted Metal Online, and even an online version of Frequency. Third-party publishers with online games include Activision, with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (which can be played online right now via the USB port and a modem), and Sierra's Tribes: Aerial Assault, due this fall. Sony said it's currently in the process of evangelizing its plans and the importance of the Network Adaptor to third pa

Vielleicht gibt es ja einen weltweiten, gleichzeitigen Start des PS2-Netzwerks. Auf der Cebit wird der Termin für Europa genannt. Bin gespannt.
